Bali Travel Information

Money changers
The official currency of Indonesia is the Rupiah (Rp). If you use moneychangers on the streets, ask them if they charge a commission. Whilst their rates may look good, you could lose out on the commission. We recommend you use only official Money Changers or our currently Exchange Service at the Reception Desk.

Street vendors
The reason these guys are walking up and down the streets and pestering people is because tourists buy fake watches, hats, etc from them. You can choose not to buy from them. But if you decide to buy, just remember "Buyer Beware"!

Shopping
Bali is a shopper's dreamland. The main tourist roads are lined with stores, shops and stalls selling Indonesian crafts, batik materials and local specialties. In Bali, the first price is not the last price. Learn the art of bargaining, keep a sense of humor, first ask the price that the vendor expects and then counter offer. You usually pay more than the locals, but that's the way it is. If you don't intend to buy don't ask for a price.

Pubs & clubs
Bali has a very exciting and vibrant nightlife. Many of the pubs and clubs are open till the early hours. When you go out at night, take only enough cash that you will need and leave your valuables in the hotel's safe deposit box. Whilst it is quite safe in Bali, there are pickpockets and other undesirables around, so be careful when out on the streets or in the bars. Have a great night out.

Food stalls -Be careful when buying food off the streets. If it looks questionable, it most probably is.

Taxis & transport
It is recommended to use only metered taxis.

Security & safety
For your own safety, we recommend you do not reveal your room number to strangers, beach boys, tour guides, etc. Usually they will call you endlessly to buy something or even pass information about you to others. Do not invite beach boys into the hotel or your room, for your own safety and peace of mind.

Tap water
We do not recommend drinking the tap water in Bali. Drink bottled water whenever you are thirsty. When buying bottled water, make sure the seal is not broken.

Climate
Bali is a tropical island. The average temperature hovers around 30 degrees Celsius year-round. There are dry and wet seasons - dry from April to September and wet from October to March - but it can rain at any time of year and even during the wet season rain is likely to pass quickly. In general May to August are the best months in Bali. At that time of year the climate is likely to be cooler and the rains lightest.
